EXCELIBR: EXCELIBR is a spreadsheet based on EXCALIBR, a program developed for solving the optical orientation of crystals. EXCELIBR contains a tab for orienting crystals optically with the option to plot crystal axes. Also included are tabs for modeling refractive index and measure refractive indices using the double variation method. For more information, see www.mccroneinstitute.org/v/1301/The-Microscope-Volume-65-Fourth-Quarter-2017 and www.minsocam.org/msa/Monographs/

Pyroxene XANES: The pyroxene group may be used for discerning magmatic redox conditions. XANES is a synchrotron-based method that is sensitive to valence state of iron, though there are orientation effects that also influence the spectra. The goal of this project, is to model the orientation dependence of pyroxenes for given Fe3+ and Fe2+ ratios, so Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio can be discerned from random sections of pyroxenes.
Geology
Riggins Serpentinites: Riggins, Idaho contains several occurrences of ultramafic rocks along the Western Idaho Suture Zone. In the Riggins area, they are all either fully serpentinized, or, metasomatically altered to talc carbonate and amphiboles. I'm interested in their metamorphic history, and the textures and assemblages associated with their genesis.
